Good morning Fediverse, I hope you had a good night and I send you a lot of will to get out of bed on this Monday morning \o/
why did we forget that "economic class" is an actual thing and that it's separate from race?
in whose interest might it have been that we forget?
are we embarrassed to start talking about Class again?
is it that it's become Socially Acceptable on the Polite Left to talk about Discrimination Based On Race, and yet Very Socially Unacceptable in the same Left to talk about Discrimination Based On Not Having Giant Stacks of Money?
did stacks of money have any influence on this change, I wonder
My least favourite form of "debate" is where someone comes along with claims they believe to be axiomatic, and when those beliefs are challenged they spiral into "provide me with a 20,000 word essay with hundreds of citations or you're a liar".
I get that people are prone to allowing their beliefs to identify them, that makes conversation risky. But know yourself, know that risk. Avoid it by separating what you do and believe from who you are.
If y'all keep bickering too long you'll be bickering amongst the ruins of another platform torn apart by infighting
Fuck Diamonds (commercially, not technically) and fuck De Beers
I'm not saying that Tesla hasn't done something important — it's brought electric cars from the perception of wind-up toy to serious transportation, especially in a country where the idea we will give up our cars is utter nonsense — but I am saying that Elon Musk and his fanbase are incredibly toxic. Elon Musk did not invent the electric car. But history gives credit to the populariser.
How to Masto:
The number on the right is a toot's power, or how much damage it can do. The one on the left is its toughness, how much damage it can take.
To summon a toot, you have to tap your feeds to gain moods.
Next time you're outside, take a look at the clouds.
When you create a conlang, don't forget to create a short guide containing the most current things people need to say in a foreign language:
- Please
- Thank you
- Where is the bathroom?
- What time is it?
- Seize the means of production
Hello #cosplay and #propmaking people! Humble Bundle is offering a ton of good and helpful books for relatively small money, so you might want to take a look: https://www.humblebundle.com/books/cosplay2-books
It's 2018.
Gatekeeping and elitism in fandom is OUT.
Welcoming newcomers and sharing the things that bring you joy with others is IN.
The paradox of productivity in 2018 is even if you're writing a quantum tech article whilst simultaneously dogwalking, podcasting your fourth Ph. D, & inventing the next revolutionary drudge-work-automating app (that will be consumed by a tech giant), you'll always be making not-enough per hour for a dignified existence.
No amount of neurohack pills, 180-hour crunches and AI assistants will ever free us, because neofeudal capitalism will consume all abundance.
The wheel must break.
Got the sewing machine back after 3 months of repair and made a quick #rustlang rustean (using this pattern http://edunham.net/2016/04/11/plushie_rustacean_pattern.html )
@cassolotl lore exists and they are comparing him to data???
also yeah making fun of how people express complex emotions is shitty and normalizes societal expectations that hurt people on the spectrum every damn day of their lives
RT @seneca@twitter.com: NOBODY EVER GETS TO COMPLAIN ABOUT HISTORY BEING BORING EVER *EVER* AGAIN.
A pretty vicious takedown of the "A Wrinkle In Time" movie: https://siderea.dreamwidth.org/1406296.html
I liked that book. Looks like I should steer clear of the movie. 😬
