In order to be verified you have to be put on their list. By hand. And they explicitly don't want to bother with small instances. So, ah, yeah #keybase, f u too.
Being uninterested in the long tail of independent sites says to me that they don't really share my values on what makes federation interesting.
@roka I want both rel=me and also proprietary, siloed crap to work properly.
@dl tbqh keybase, as a centralized service, was always going to be against decentralization
like the got a bunch of early adopters by being a not-hideous gpg keyserver but most of what they've done since then has been proprietary and centralized
@bonzoesc I don't think they're opposed to federation. I think they just don't care.
My saltiness comes from them trying to get the cred from supporting a community project while not actually supporting it.
It would not have been difficult to design their system to take any mastodon service. There were likely just consequences they didn't want to deal with (like nsfw domain names).
@dl "just don't care" is basically anti-decentralization for their business, because decentralization is difficult to build, harder to monetize, and very hard to make money for a420z with
@dl Yeah, I was pretty sad to find that out, too.
