Twitter missed opportunity
A missed opportunity for #Twitter was to become the middlemen between news orgs and users near newsworthy events. Specialized tools could allow the news to pay for content licensing to obtain photos and video, then Twitter could take a cut. News gets content, Twitter gets paid, creators get paid.
IMHO, this would have produced a profoundly better Twitter, leveraging its unique status in the world and avoiding the more-eyeballs-at-any-cost trap of ad revenue.
