Things I learned/remembered on this trip: there's no LiveATC coverage in the UK because it's illegal to listen to aircraft broadcasts unless they're "specifically intended for you"!

Because that's totally how radio broadcast works.

@tw Oddly, it is legal to purchase and own radios capable of listening to ATC - many aircraft enthusiasts do.
Indeed, it's not uncommon to see spotters at airports with these radios blaring out - the police generally turn a blind eye to this.
Any attempt to broadcast on these frequencies is treated harshly, however, so airband scanners are receive only.

@mancavgeek yeah, and presumably it's harder to turn a blind eye to rebroadcast like LiveATC (or they just don't want to borrow trouble). It's a shame though, I always love listening to my flight being cleared.
